The Lifelong Learning Standard
Educators engage in professional learning.
“Educators engage in professional learning and reflective practice to support their professional growth. Educators recognize and meet their individual professional needs through various learning opportunities. Educators develop and refine personal philosophies of education, teaching and learning that are informed by research, practice and the Professional Standards for BC Educators.” Reads the description of Standard 7 from the BCTC PDF.
The game of Minecraft is consistently changing as more updates come out over time. The game itself still has the same goals. Players are expected to learn how to adapt to these changes but their base play style doesn’t have to change! They are given more tools to make the game more enjoyable for everyone involved. They are given access to items that will expedite certain processes. They will learn how to bring these new things into their day-to-day play. Sometimes it is a process of trial and error. Other times a different player may bring it up or help implement it. Sometimes it is simply taking a look at the wiki. It looks different for each player as they all have a different established skill set. As long as the player is changing alongside the game, even just in little bits, they will find success.

The field of education is ever changing and everyone involved is a learner! Professional development takes many forms. It may look like a workshop on a designated Pro-D day or it could be finding new resources or deepening your understanding of ones you already have. I still have a lot to learn but it has to be done over time. I am so excited to see what learning opportunities I can find throughout my career as an educator.
